The main purpose of operating system is ready to computer for user. without operating system a user cannote do anything on computer.Operating system is most important for computer.

operating system manges all operationson the computer after loading in memory. perationg must be installed on everey computer. Without operting system the computer sysytem is nothing.

Another defination of computer system is,operating systems are set of program that are designed to run in the background on computer screen.

The operating system must provide an interface between the user and the computer and also between softwaer and the computer. Most operting system provide the following two types of interface to their users,

Command-line Interface  :  In such interface the user communicate with the operating system by typing typing commands using keyboard. Each commands given to the operating system  activates one of the many programs in the OS.

example of such an interface is the command prompt provide by MS-DOS to its user.

Graphical user Interface  : The graphical user interface  consiste of Windows, Menus, Icons and pointers. The user of the system communicate with the Operating system by selecting commands frome the menus or by selecting different icons with the pointing devices. MS-windows is a well example of the OS with the GUI(Graphical User Interface). In MS-windows user selects commands by using a mouse and keuboard.
